Text: Acts 2:42-47
Intro: In a town near by, there was a group of people that established a church by going into the community and taking a survey. The first question on the survey was, “If you were looking for a church what kind of a church would you like to attend.” I want to say the kind of church every believer should want to attend should be one like the early church.(Title)
I want to go to church where there is:
1. Life.....................Not dead, dry and dull.
2. Liberty................Have freedom to worship.
3. Love.................. Not fussing, fighting and arguing.
4. Leadership..........Not just a preacher but a pastor.
5. Labor.................They have an ambition to do something.
I want to go to church where people are:
1. Happy in their worship.
2. Holy in their walk.
3. Humble in their ways.
4. Helpful in their works.
5. Honest in their words.
6. Hungry in their witness.
8 things about this early church.
1. They were a faithful church......vs. 42 “continued steadfastly”
2. They were a fearful church.......vs. 43
3. They were a friendly church.....vs. 44
4. They were a financially giving church.........vs. 45
5. They were a fanatical church....vs. 46
6. They were a favored church.....vs. 47
7. They were a fruitful church.......vs. 48
8 Things the early church had:
1. The early church had preachers.......vs.42 (apostles)
2. The early church had principles........vs. 42 (doctrine)
3. The early church had prayers............vs. 42
4. The early church had power..............vs. 43
5. The early church had purpose...........vs. 44-45
6. The early church had persistence......vs. 46
7. The early church had praise..............vs. 47
8. The early church had people.............vs. 47
4 Reasons why I would have wanted to have been a member of this church:
I. Their Growing..............vs.42,45,47
A. They were growing spiritually.......vs.42
B. They were growing financially......vs.45
C. They were growing numerically....vs.47
II. Their Giving.................vs. 45
A. Their giving was sacrificial. (Sold their possessions.)
B. Their giving was sincere. (Parted them to all men.)
III. Their Gladness..........vs. 44, 46
A. They were glad when they were together...........vs. 44
B. They were glad when they were at the temple....vs.46
C. They were glad when they were at the table.......vs. 46
IV. Their God.................vs. 47 (Ps. 127:1)
A. The Lord added directly. (To the church)
B. The Lord added daily.
C. The Lord added divinely. (Such as should be saved.)
Familiar saying: “If every member were just like me, then what kind of church would my church be?”
